Removal of Automotive Fluids, Corrosive Salts, & Dirt

Dirty parking lots frequently have large deposits of used motor oil containing lead, copper, cadmium and chromium, all toxic to humans and our ecosystems. One quart can contaminate 250,000 gallons of fresh water. If rain runoff and water from pressure washing activities are simply allowed to run into our streams and storm sewers, our environment will continue to suffer.

Through our Environmental Power Washing we utilize modern water collection, filtering, and recycling technologies to not only provide our customers with a clean facility, but protect the environment and comply with all State Environmental laws as well.

Did you know...
The City & County of Honolulu and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (section 301 of the Clean Water Act) prohibit many discharges, including those from a Power (pressure) washer that cleans such things as equipment, a restaurant's solid waste storage area, or a parking lot and then discharges the process water into a storm drain. City penalties can be up to $25,000 per violation, per day and 90 days in jail. EPA penalties can be significantly higher.

Maintaining a Clean Parking Facility

There are many reasons to keep a neat and clean parking facility -

  • Cosmetic - Both tenants and customers expect a clean and neat first impression.
  • Safety & Liability - Liability is greatly reduced by maintaining a facility devoid of loose debris and slick surfaces.
  • Maintenance - Removal of automotive fluids and corrosive salts reduces corrosion and expensive repair costs.
  • Environmental - Perhaps the most important reason to maintain a clean facility is to reduce the harmful effects of runoff from rain events. Remember, one quart of unused motor oil can contaminate 250,000 gallons of fresh water.

A Challenging Task

Simply sweeping a parking lot takes care of loose rubbish and dirt but does not to remove oil and grease build up. Power washing can help remove these deposits, but allowing the residual wastewater to discharge to the environment and/or storm sewers is in direct violation of City, State and Federal laws.

The good news is that you now have an option.

IWT utilizes modern water collection, filtering and recycling technology to ultimately capture or evaporate 100% of the wash water and pollutants associated with pressure washing activities. We are licensed by both the City and County of Honolulu and State of Hawaii to transport and dispose of pressure washing waste water.

The best news is that IWT performs this service based on a very competitive fee structure. This gives the parking lot manager the peace of mind of knowing that you are looking out for the owner’s bottom line, the tenant’s value, the customer’s satisfaction, and most important, our precious environment.
